چکیده

A large amount of glycosaminoglycans was found in the AH-130 ascites tumor cells and also in the ascites fluids. After combined administration of Cyclophosphamide and vitamin A to the tumor-bearing rats, a significant decrease was found in tumor glycosaminoglycans sensitive to lysosomal hyaluronidase, such as the nonsulfated glycosamino glycans or chondroitin sulfate A and/or C. An increased release of the lysosomal enzymes into ascites was also consistently found. It is suggested that this reduction in tumor glycosaminoglycans reflects the synergistic effect of the combined administration of Cyclophosphamide and vita min A on the survival time of tumor-bearing rats in this investigation.

Changes in the PPla mRNA Level and PP1 Activity of Ascites Hepatomas at Different Cell Growth Rates

It is now well established that the type la of serine/threonine protein phosphatases (PP1α) may be implicated in malignant phenotype. Although the PP1α mRNA level increased in livers at preneo-plastic stages of hepatocarinogenesis and all of examined rat ascites hepatomas, unexpectedly, dra-matically decreased in some of primary hepatomas. In order to elucidate the low level of PP1α mRNA in som...

Marked hyperlipidaemia in rats bearing the Yoshida AH-130 ascites hepatoma.

Malignant tumour burden is a pathological s ta te associated with a considerable demand for nutrients by the growing tumour [l]. Although a great deal of work has been carried out, there are contradictory results about the effects of tumour burden on lipid metabolism both in experimental animals and man. Lipid oxidation has been reported either increased [2], unchanged [3] or decreased [4]. In ...

International Journal of Pharma and Bio Sciences V1(2)2010 MODULATORY EFFECT OF ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C) ON CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE-MEDIATED ANTITUMOR ACTIVITY AND MUTAGENICITY IN MICE BEARING ASCITES DALTON’S LYMPHOMA

Cyclophosphamide is an anticancer drug with immunosuppressive activities. Considering various reports on the possible antioxidant/protective functions of ascorbic acid, it is aimed at to explore the modulatory effect of ascorbic acid on therapeutic efficacy as well as mutagenic potentials of cyclophosphamide in the same tumor bearing mice. Swiss albino mice with ascites Dalton’s lymphoma were u...

Comparative study of the protective effects of chicken embryo amniotic fluid, vitamin C and coenzyme Q10 on cyclophosphamide-induced oxidative stress in mice ovaries

Cyclophosphamide is a chemotherapy drug for the treatment of cancer. Chicken embryo amniotic fluid, vitamin C and coenzyme Q10 have anti-oxidant properties. Total of 70 adult female mice were selected and divided into seven groups. The first group that received 2 ml kg-1 of inactivated amniotic fluid subcutaneously. The second group treated with 75 mg kg-1of cyclophosphami...

Metabolic-independent volume changes and Mg++ binding in mitochondria isolated from AH-130 Yoshida ascites hepatoma.

The mitochondria isolated in isotonic sucrose from AH-130 Yoshida ascites hepatoma appear spontaneously swollen (11, 12). This spontaneous swelling may be in part responsible for the inability of tumor mitochondria to undergo extensive volume changes in hypotonie conditions or in conditions that induce large-amplitude, metabolic-dependent, or metabolic-independent swelling in normal liver mitoc...
